Te Anau Central Backpackers is hibernating over winter from 1 June 2026, but will re-open for summer stays from 1 October 2026. Centrally located, it is the ideal base for your Fiordland adventure.

Just off the town's main road and on the edge of the Fiordland National Park, Te Anau Central Backpackers is perfectly positioned to access some of New Zealand's world famous tours and hikes.

Whether travelling solo or as part of a couple or group, the hostel has an accommodation style to suit everyone's needs and budget. Rooms are bright and clean, featuring both bunk beds and full size beds so guests have options regarding their privacy. Bathroom facilities are shared, except for the Private Double Rooms which feature their own ensuite. Locker and towel hire, FREE unlimited WiFi in all guest rooms and throughout the property and complimentary off-street parking is available to guests during their stay.

Shared social spaces include a large well-equipped kitchen, cosy lounge with roaring fireplace and plenty of couch space to dive into a good book. An outdoor courtyard with a covered deck area, barbeque facilities and private tranquil gardens.
